Key Person Approach
At Cambo Pre-school we operate a Key Person System:
A key person is an important role in your child’s life whilst at pre-school. When your child joins Cambo Pre-school they will be allocated a member of our team who will work with your child to help them settle in, learn and encourage them to achieve. They will also be responsible for their development plans/progress reviews. They will get to know your child well, become attuned to their likes and dislikes, attitudes and preferences and will provide your child with particular support at key times. We find this helps us to recognise each child as an individual, provide continuity, reassurance and make them feel secure within our setting.
A key person will be the first point of contact for their key child’s parents/carers; this allows us to build up strong relationship with parents/carers, providing lots of opportunities for key person and parent interaction. We work together as a team to get the best outcomes for your child.
Tapestry Learning Journals
Tapestry is an online Learning Journal where we record all the learning and fun your child will have in our setting.
All children attending Cambo Pre-school will have a personal Learning Journal which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This is an exciting online Learning Journey to further support our links with parents and allow you access to the observations we undertake during sessions. You can receive an instant email notification to let you know a new entry has arrived for your child.
You can assess your child’s learning journal at anytime, anywhere and Tapestry can be shared with family and friends.
Parents/carers can comment on our observations, as well as uploading their own photos, videos and observations.
Parents as Partners
Working in partnership with parents is central to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Consulting parents about children’s early experiences helps practitioners plan their learning in the most effective way.
All contributions from parents are encouraged and welcomed. Helping out during sessions, sharing interests or information about home life and taking part in discussions about our childcare service provide the opportunity for parents to find out about their children’s learning in the setting and for us to hear about their learning at home.
Parents are regarded as members of our setting who have full participatory rights. These include a right to be:
- Valued and respected
- Kept informed
- Consulted
- Involved
- Included
Special/Additional Educational Needs and Disabilities
Cambo Wraparound is an inclusive environment. We understand that sometimes children need more support than others at some point in their lives.
Children learn in different ways and make progress at different rates; with this in mind we provide a broad, balanced and inclusive environment. We believe that getting to know each child and their families personally will enable us to find the most appropriate way to support and help their leaning.
Wherever possible, we will go above and beyond to support children with additional needs and their families. This may involve working closely with multi agencies including: speech therapist, physiotherapists, portage and health visitors.
Staff are experts at observing and assessing children and can support them on a variety of levels to ensure they access the environment safely and appropriately. We make sure that our sessions meet the needs of each individual child and we take account of any special needs a child may have.
